Website Development with Social Media Management Project for Canine Therapies
We were recently engaged to do a Website Development with a view to introducing Social Media Management practices for a Canine Hydrotherapy business called ‘Canine Therapies‘ which we were pleased to undertake as we are all dog lovers at Tickbox Consulting.

Social Media Management for a Canine Hydrotherapists
At our first appointment with Anne Johnson, the owner of Canine Therapies, we had an informal chat about her business and what marketing they performed to grow the business and had a look around the place.
I have to say that its quite a facility. Huge pool specifically designed for Dogs, Wash Room, Drying Facilities known as the ‘Blaster, Therapy Room, Ample Parking space and an area for the dogs to relieve themselves.
Together with Anne, there are 3 full time Therapists each of them very commited to helping dogs have a better quality of life.
Anne had a very traditional approach to marketing. They had a very basic website that had been put together for them several years ago which had not changed much over the years and was ranked by Alexa.com as being 25,000,000+ in the site popularity stake. They also made use of Flyers and had arrangements with various local vets in the area where many of Canine Therapies clients were referred. It was nice to find out that many of the dogs referred by vets continued to use Canine Therapies after they had recovered from thier problem.

During my conversation with Anne, I obviously explained what could be done to replace the existing websites and explained what Social Media Management could do to promote Canine Therapies. Her immediate response to Social Mediat Management was “I hate Facebook and don’t want to do it!”.
Soon after that I got Anne to tell me about some of the Dogs that used the pool at Canine Therapies and why and she soon started to regail these amazing stories about various dogs that come to her often when the Vets can do no more with Surgery and how they were nursed back to health in the pool.
At around about the 3rd story, and with me feeling the full gamet of emotions, I said to Anne that there must be thousands of people around the world that would love to hear your stories and suggested that she should start Blogging. I asked her what she thought about Blogging and she said that she would not have any problems writing the stories as she used to be a school teacher and was the Editor for a Labrador Charity. At this point I knew that this could work for Anne.
With the idea of blogging about Canine Therapies sold I started to explain the importance of using Social Media Management to bring people to her blog and to keep people engaged with what she is doing. Before long, Anne was much more enthusiastic about Facebook & Twitter, although I think it was really because she quickly realised that we would be doing much of the work on these platforms for her. Although she was keen on the idea of the ‘viral marketing’ effect that can be achieved with these platforms.
Maybe Social Media Management does have a place at Canine Therapies?
We have now got a fully functional blog at Canine Therapies which you can see for yourself here. We hope you like it and if you love dogs please consider subscribing as the work they do at Canine Therapies is worthy of support.
They have put together some initial posts about various dogs and have thoroughly explained what they do on the site.
Despite Annes initial dislike of Facebook, she and Canine Therapies have really pressed ahead and supported our efforts to be an effective Social Media Managers. So much so, that Canine Therapies has a presence on the following Social Media Platforms:
And they may want to explore more in the future…
In actual fact, Facebook appears to be the most popular platform for Dog lovers and in a very short period of time Anne has started building an engaged following.
Anne is starting to Tweet most days and has realised how effective these 2 methods are for keeping in touch with customers and dog lovers from all over the world.
I’ve encouraged Anne to record Animals progress using Photographs and Video and I was pleased to find out that she already used an underwater video camera to help her understand biomechanics so she can adapt the methods being used with a dog. These are often made available to the veterinary surgeon so that they too can monitor the progress. Its our intention to add these videos to the Canine Therapies YouTube channel so that they can be embeded in posts to improve any related story.
We have also integrated her Flickr Photostream into the Canine Therapies blog so that as more photographs are added they are automatically included as Thumbnail images on the blog.
So what effects has an effective website and Social Media Management had on Canine Therapies?
The blog has been in a pre-launch state for about 14 days and is approaching Launch on 9th July. During this time Anne and her team have been bevering away producing content for the blog. The site is still to be Search Engine Optimised but already we are seeing the benefit of having a good content site that has been designed to be liked by the Search Engine Spiders. Canine Therapies Alexa Rank is under 2,000,000 which is a considerable improvement on their previous rank of 25,000,000!
On Saturday the 9th July, Canine Therapies have a stall at the Leyland Festival and we have helped them to put together a special offer for people that ‘Like’ their Facebook Fan Page as they will receive a £5.00 off their first session at Canine Therapies. They have had Flyers put together for the event advertising this special so we hope that quite a few people at the show will ‘Like’ the page, extending the reach of Annes and Canine Therapies network…
Similarly on the 10th July Canine Therapies are sponsoring a Charity Dog walk and provides them with another opportunity to leaflet their target market to bring them into their Facebook community and hopefully to become an engaged user of their blog.
At Canine Therapies we are combining traditional Marketing with Social Media Management to spread the word about the work Anne and her team does.
If you own a business and would like to find out how Social Media Management could help you achieve your goals, please get in touch.
If you would like to keep up to date with us you can follow me on Twitter and become a Fan on Facebook… And of course if you love dogs show you support for all the incredible work Anne and her team do, by visiting her blog, following her on Twitter and becoming a Fan on Facebook.
